Picture
Abby Ann Muzzey (1806-1870) completed her alphabet sampler at ten years of age  She was the daughter of Reverend William Muzzey and Anna Munroe.  Both Abby Ann's maternal grandfather, William Munroe IV, and her paternal grandfather, Amos Muzzey, fought at the Battle of Lexington as members of Captain Parker’s militia, and they later served during the Revolutionary War.  Two of Abby Ann's sisters, Laura and Emily, created samplers which are also housed in the Society's collection.  Laura’s alphabet sampler was recently conserved and is also on display this evening.  When the conservation of Abby Ann’s sampler is completed, the three Muzzey sisters' samplers can be exhibited together.

Treatment needed: Cleaning, preparation of and alignment with support fabric, preparation of frame and museum glass, installation in new frame with archival dust cover, digitization.

Conservation to be completed by Windsor Conservation in Dover, MA.

Total Cost to Conserve: $2,000
