Anna Munroe Portrait
Oil painting of Anna Munroe, daughter of William Munroe, proprietor of Munroe Tavern in April 1775. Anna was not quite 4 years old in April 1775 (her birthdate was May 9, 1771) when the British Regulars occupied her family's home (Munroe Tavern). She hid in the woods with her family until they left. In November 1789, at the age of 18, Anna helped her parents serve dinner to President George Washington at the Tavern on his visit to Lexington.
Anna's portrait is displayed in the Munroe Berdroom at the Tavern. Original frame deteriorated. New frame and installation donated in 2016 by Ed Pioli of Walden Framer, Lexington.
