Job Title: Visitor Service Associate- Buckman Tavern
Type: Part-time Seasonal (March- November)
Description: As a Visitor Service Associate at Buckman Tavern, which served as a de-facto headquarters for the Lexington Militia in the early morning hours of April 19th, 1775, candidates are responsible for providing excellent customer service to the visiting public as well as orienting them to the Lexington area and the Historical Society’s historic properties. Associates are also responsible for managing ticket and shop sales as well as familiarizing visitors with the self-guided audio tour that walks visitors through the historic rooms of Buckman Tavern. In addition, associates are responsible for leading reserved group tours during both the open season and the off season, as well as having the opportunity to be trained and lead a variety of educational programs designed for school children that are offered by the Society. Buckman Tavern is open 7 days a week from March- November.
Requirements: Visitor Service Associates are required to complete a training program under the direction of the Manager of Education and Interpretation. Associates are encouraged to wear reproduction 18th-century clothing (Provided on a case by case basis). Associates are expected to work a minimum of 10-15 hours per week and a minimum of 5 weekend shifts and 1 holiday shift per season.
Qualifications: Candidates must have an interest in and skill for dealing with the general public. The Lexington Historical Society receives visitors from all over the globe and associates will have direct contact with these visitors. Therefore, candidates must have strong interpersonal, customer service and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a love and knowledge of American History (Specifically the American Revolution) Experience using a Point of Sale Inventory Management System is a plus.
