Introduction
The Battle of Lexington and Concord has largely been interpreted for the public from an American viewpoint. Of course, this national narrative tells only part of the story. What follows here attempts to complicate the narrative by providing British soldiers participants’ views of the events in Lexington. Divided into three parts, each includes historical background and a bibliographic essay that describes available British firsthand accounts. These are linked to excerpts from the actual source.
