ABOUT OUR COLLECTIONS

From its founding in 1886, the Society has gathered key collections and artifacts to preserve for future generations. While much of the focus in Lexington is often given to the Revolutionary era, the Society’s curatorial and archival holdings of more than 20,000 items reflect Lexington’s rich history from the 1630s through present day.
The Society has been fortunate to receive collections from town organizations, businesses, churches, town historians, military companies, selectmen, photographers, town meeting members, and architects, to name but a few. We continue to acquire archival resources on an ongoing basis, and welcome donations of Lexington-related documents, photographs, objects and other items.
Digitization of the Society’s collection is ongoing and a small portion of our materials is available by visiting Online Resources. Researchers may visit the archives by appointment only. Research privileges are extended to Lexington Historical Society Members at no charge. Research privileges are extended to students and nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations at no charge. For non-members, thirty minutes of preliminary staff time will be offered to researchers at no charge. After thirty minutes, researchers may utilize the archives for a $35 research fee; or, they can become a member of the Society. See the Research Requests page to learn more.
