Book Group #3: “Live to the Truth: the Life and Times of Cyrus Peirce” by Barbara Ann White

Tuesday, January 22, 6:00 PM, at the Depot

Join us as we talk about a new history book over dinner!

January’s book is a new look at our local history right here in Lexington. “Live to the Truth: the Life and Times of Cyrus Peirce” follows the story of Cyrus Pierce, who was chosen by Horace Mann to be the first director of the Lexington Normal School in 1839. The school, now known as the Simon W. Robinson Masonic Lodge, was the first teacher training school in the United States. An early advocate for student teaching, conversational learning, and school integration, Pierce was often at odds with the 19th century establishment, but his methods that were formulated here form the basis of much of our modern education today.

Includes catered dinner from Neillio's.

Single club meetings are $30 for members, $35 for non-members. Full sessions (5 meetings) are $100 for members, $125 for non-members.
