Accessibility
Lexington History Museums strives to make our museums accessible to as many people as possible within the parameters of our historic buildings. All of the structures we steward have some manner of accessibility, with the exception of the Old Belfry, which is located up a steep, rocky slope. Please exercise caution when visiting.

Museum Information
Buckman Tavern

Buckman Tavern has free street parking immediately in front of the building, as well as around the Battle Green across the street. Two accessible spaces are designated on the Green directly behind the crosswalk.

The main entrance to the tavern is via a gravel ramp.
Some interior doors are adaptable to provide wheelchair access. Our staff will widen the doors for you. The most narrow doorway is 28”.
A lift is available for guests to access the second floor. Please ask a staff member for assistance.
Folding chairs are located throughout the house, and seating is also integrated into our second floor exhibit.
Service animals are welcome in the museum.
We regret that our garden behind the museum is not accessible.

Buckman Tavern is climate controlled.
Standard Buckman Tavern tours include an audio wand and supplementary signage throughout the house. Our audio tour is also available to listen to on a cell phone via QR code for additional volume control.
Our audio tours are equipped with translations in Spanish, Mandarin, French, Japanese, German, and Hebrew. A printed copy of the English tour is also available to read.
An iPad containing an American Sign Language tour and hearing assistance is available at the front desk for visitors on guided tours.
Buckman Tavern contains interactive elements suitable for elementary-aged children.

Buckman Tavern has one gender-neutral restroom with a door opening of 35”. Further accessible restrooms are located next door at the Visitors’ Center. These are accessed from the right side of the building on the outside and are open daily from
Hancock-Clarke House

Parking is available behind the museum and includes walking up a slope from the lot. An accessible spot is available on more level ground at the top of the slope.

The entrance to the museum is flat, and some the first floor doors are adaptable to expand for wheelchair access. Our staff will widen the doors for you. The most narrow doorway is 31”.
We regret that the second floor is not accessible for those who cannot navigate stairs. Guest who need accommodation are welcome to watch a video of the second floor tour in our orientation room.

Service animals are welcome in the museum.
Our garden is located immediately outside the front door. It contains small narrow paths, but is viewable in its entirely from the sidewalk.

Munroe Tavern

Parking is available in a small lot just off Massachusetts Avenue at the front of our driveway, and in the lot behind our garden on Tavern Lane. An accessible spot is located directly next to the museum.

Entrance to the museum is up a small slope to our patio, and access is flat from our accessible parking spot.
Some interior doors are adaptable to provide wheelchair access. Our staff will widen the doors for you. The most narrow doorway is 30”.
A lift is available to bring guests to the second floor. Please ask a staff member for assistance.

Lexington Depot

The Depot is located immediately in front of a municipal parking lot equipped with two accessible parking spots immediately to the left of the main entrance. Guests must utilize the Pay-To-Park app or phone number to use this lot.

The Depot has a wide, double front door that can be opened via a button located to the right of the door.
All exhibits are located on the first floor of the museum.
Folding chairs are available upon request.

The Depot is climate controlled.
All video components in the exhibit are equipped with closed-captioning.
The Depot contains hands-on elements suitable for elementary-aged children.

The Depot has two gender-neutral restrooms with door openings of 33.5”. These restrooms are also equipped with baby changing tables. A water fountain is located between the restrooms.
Sign Language Tours
We are pleased to offer pre-recorded tours in American Sign Language at Buckman Tavern, Munroe Tavern, and the Hancock-Clarke House. Guests may request an iPad at the front desk, or you may view the tour from your phone using this page or a QR code. These tours also include narration and captions.
